Aspern Seestadt, Vienna

Aspern Seestadt in Vienna is a major regeneration project on a former airport site (40 mins train ride from the city centre). Due to pressures of a rapidly increasing population, it needed to be a high density development, but was supported by the front loading of critical transport, public realm, local facilities and blue/green infrastructure. This was consciously done to ensure a strong sense of place right from the start

The site has been developed in 4 phases, with the developers learning from each first phase and altering aspects of the masterplan e.g. more softening of the public realm with street trees to combat urban heating issues. The final phase is due to start in 2020. For more information and to download the masterplan click here
