Benefits and Evidence

Green Infrastructure can make a valuable contribution to the managment of climate change and to numerous aspects of urban and rural life, such as the reduction of flooding and associated impacts; the improvment of air quality; supporting biodiversity; urban heat effects; and health and well being.  In addition they can bring benefits to building users through thermal and noise insulation benefits, extended building life and enhanced leisure environment. There is some evidence to suggest that simply through making the building pleasant to inhabit and thus desirable to own, green buildings may help to maintain property values. However the cost benefits are not as well reported and these should be highlighted to generate greater interest in the technology.
